Fun side note or disrespectful finger in the eye? Johnny Manziel's failed extra-point attempt dominates the postgame debate.
In the wake of last week's monumental victory over Alabama, Texas A&M largely avoided the expected letdown by defeating the overmatched Sam Houston State Bearkats, 47-28. The Aggies jumped out to a 47-0 lead, including four scores in a nine-minute stretch in the second quarter that caught the attention of SB Nation's Texas A&M blog Good Bull Hunting:
After a sluggish start, we finally came to life in the second, scoring four touchdowns in about nine minutes. The collective sigh of relief coming out of Kyle was pretty much audible in several Texas cities. Also the number of teams in the top 2 that lost last night. We were knocking off #1 before it was fashionable, folks. Now everyone's copied us and Bama is back in the title hunt.
Aggie quarterback Johnny Manziel completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 267 yards and three touchdowns, adding 100 yards rushing on 16 attempts. If Manziel made a mistake, it was missing an unexpected extra-point attempt in the second half. Aggie coach Kevin Sumlin said he sent his star quarterback out to attempt the kick to break up the monotony of the season. Other analysts felt the attempt was disrespectful to the Bearkats. Good Bull Hunting weighed in on the "controversy":
I really don't see this as an insult to SHSU as those who gave feedback during the game did. Bertolet had already missed one on the day (and several on the season), and Manziel almost pushed it through. It's not like this game was on a national stage.
The win takes Texas A&M to 9-2 on the season, with the Aggies' finale against Missouri scheduled for next Saturday.
