A sweet tooth doesn?t have to totally derail your healthy eating routine! Instead of indulging in refined sugars and unhealthy fats, you can whip up a batch of raw vegan truffles in less than 30 minutes!
I had to cut out refined sugars in the second half of my pregnancy, because baby hormones were making it tough for my body to metabolize sugar. Hypoglycemia runs in my family, so I wasn?t too surprised when I flunked the sugar test. I didn?t have gestational diabetes, but my body was having a hard time dealing with the cookies that my pregnant belly was craving.

Over those months, I replaced baked goods with sweet whole foods like fresh and dried fruit. After a while, though, I really started to miss occasionally indulging in a proper dessert, and these truffles were the perfect solution!
These truffles get their sweetness from dried fruit, and instead of butter, cream, or coconut oil, the fat comes from healthy raw nuts. That means each of these tasty truffles has healthy protein and fiber along with chocolatey deliciousness!
The base for this recipe is dried fruit, and while they don?t contain any refined sugars, the fruit in these truffles makes them quite sweet. A raw vegan dessert is still a dessert, so if you?re trying to keep things on the healthy side, you don?t want to devour the whole batch in one go. Have just one as a treat. Okay, have two!
Now that we have that caveat out of the way, let?s make some truffles! Check out the recipe, with a few variations, on the next page!
