'Bama beats Oklahoma 8-6, forces Game 3 of WCWS

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) ? It's on the wall in the practice facility and in the dugout whenever Alabama plays. It's right there in black and white on the players' wrists, too.

FINISH IT.

With one game left to decide the NCAA softball championship, the Crimson Tide's season-long mantra has reached its ultimate point.

Jackie Traina and Amanda Locke each had three-run doubles and Alabama forced a decisive third game in the Women's College World Series finals by beating Oklahoma 8-6 on Tuesday night.

The trophy will be handed out after Game 3 on Wednesday night.

"It's the perfect time to finish it right now," Traina said. "Tomorrow's going to be the day."

Traina laced a double to the warning track in left-center field with two outs in the second inning, putting the second-seeded Crimson Tide up 4-1. They wouldn't trail again.

Kaila Hunt added a sacrifice before Locke's bases-clearing double in the fourth for the Crimson Tide (59-8), who are trying to become the first Southeastern Conference team to win the NCAA softball title.

"Everybody was locked in and ready to go. I couldn't be more proud of a team," said Patrick Murphy, who briefly left to coach LSU for a few days last June before having second thoughts and returning to Alabama.

"This is what we've been working for ? me for 16 years but these guys for four years. I'm just excited. I wish we could play right now."

Alabama and Tennessee each have 12 World Series wins, the most for any team that hasn't won the championship.

The Crimson Tide lost twice last season when they were one win away from reaching the World Series finals, and sophomore Jordan Patterson came up with the idea for the FINISH IT slogan. The team put up a sign with a hand print that players slap as they leave the hitting facility each day. They also put a sign up in the dugout, even on the road, and had wristbands printed.

The national championship is all that's left in front of them now.

"I think that would be the ultimate finishing it," Murphy said.

The finish didn't come easily in Game 2, though.

Jessica Shults hit a three-run home run during Oklahoma's five-run rally in the seventh inning and finished with four RBIs. Erica Sampson's run-scoring groundout got the Sooners (54-9) within two.

Traina (41-3) then struck out Javen Henson to end the game.

"Whether we won or lost, the message that we sent and the confidence we brought was probably one of the most proud moments I've had with this team and not quitting," Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said.

"They scored five runs off of one of the best pitchers in the country, saying: 'We're going to be back tomorrow, we're going to put it all out on the line.'"

Gasso said Oklahoma "gave away" too many opportunities. Four of the season-high six runs allowed by Keilani Ricketts (37-8) were unearned because of a pair of errors by Henson at third base in the second inning.

Ricketts also hit five batters with pitches, a career-high and World Series record, and walked another in 3 1-3 innings.

"For us to think that we would go in against Alabama and have it easy, we had another thing coming," Gasso said. "We had to play better ball. We did not deserve to win that game."

Alabama's hitters crowded the plate and moved up in the box to limit the lefty's pitch selection. Ricketts had never hit more than three batters with pitches in a game previously.

"My pitches were just running into them," Ricketts said. "They were getting away from me. I'm just going to have to adjust those pitches to where they're standing in the box now."

Gasso said she thinks "a new day, new umpires, new everything, changes the whole landscape of everything."

Hunt had only been hit by pitches twice all season before getting hit on the right forearm her first two times at the plate.

"It wasn't part of the game plan, that's for sure," Hunt said. "I'll take it, I guess. We had a game plan and I stuck with it, and I guess she just got a little too tight."

In a reversal of Game 1, which Oklahoma won 4-1, it was Alabama that roared right back after allowing the first run of the game.

Locke, who reached on Henson's fielding error, came in to score when Henson couldn't catch a flip from shortstop Jessica Vest on Jennifer Fenton's two-out chopper as Jazlyn Lunceford slid in head first. Ricketts then hit Hunt the second time, loading the bases before Traina cleared them with her liner to the track.

Locke made it 8-1 with her three-run double ? also with two outs and also to left-center ? off of reliever Michelle Gascoigne in the fourth.

Oklahoma provided some late excitement for a close-to-home contingent including football coach Bob Stoops and men's basketball coach Lon Kruger that came out to see the Sooners try to win their second World Series championship.

But Traina said she never doubted she'd get out of it.

"I just had to step back, take a breather," Traina said. "You know, finish it."

Noomi Rapace Talks Prometheus

Ridley Scott?s new more-of-an-Alien-prequel-than-anybody?s-letting-on?film, "Prometheus,"?is a scaly, slimy, very-R-rated science-fiction spectacle that dares to ask big questions (like, cosmically big), while also scaring the living daylights out of you.

At the center of all this galactic weirdness is the film's big, beating heart, mostly supplied by the performance of former -- and some would argue, reigning -- girl with the dragon tattoo, Noomi Rapace. Here Rapace plays archeologist Elizabeth Shaw, a strong-willed scientist who leads a team of researchers and corporate goons to a distant planet to look for the origins of life on earth.

Moviefone spoke with Noomi from London, where she filled us in on getting the highly coveted role, working with Ridley Scott, what it was like taking over for Sigourney Weaver, and having another actress (Rooney Mara) portray Lisbeth Salander in the updated "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

What initially brought you to the project?
I was in L.A. a year and a half ago for some meetings and I was approached to meet with Ridley's producer. And then I hear, a couple minutes before the meeting, that Ridley was going to come and that he wanted to see me. I was really shocked and nervous and he stepped into the room and kissed me and said, "I've seen 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' three times and I think you're fantastic, I want to work with you." I thought I was going to die. I had this Helmut Lang light blue dress [on] and I started to sweat and thought, This is the worst dress to wear in this kind of situation because he can see me panicking. And I didn't really believe it -- it was hard to really realize that it was true and he meant it. Then he came back to me a couple of weeks later and said he was going to do a sci-fi movie, some kind of prequel to "Alien," and that he wanted me to play the lead. We talked for many weeks and then I realized it was true.

[But, while filming] you have to ignore all that ?- you have to ignore that he's Sir Ridley Scott and one of the biggest, greatest directors in the world. You have to push that aside to be able to work. It's impossible to work if you're paralyzed by respect and awe. You have to forget about everything else outside of this project. And Ridley is very good about that ?- he's never pretentious and he never talks about himself as an icon.

Were you a fan of the original movies?
Absolutely! I saw "Alien" when I was thirteen and I was completely blown away by Sigourney's character, Ripley. I remember that I had never seen anything like it. At that time, I was desperately looking for some kind of role model or people to look up to, and for me, what she did there was so stunning -- she was so fearless and strong and sexy at the same time but not posing, not trying to be sexy. She was so modern and such a rebel. I was obsessed.

Later on I saw "Thelma & Louise" and "Gladiator" and "American Gangster"... [Ridley] manages to create big movies that feel like they are groundbreaking and make a mark in history. But at the same time, there's an intimacy and something very heartbreaking in them. For me, Ridley is truly a hero.

You're in an interesting position as an actress because you're harkening back to Sigourney's Ripley character in "Prometheus" and just saw another actress assume your role for "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." What is that experience like?
I didn't really think about Ripley so much when I was preparing and trying to find Elizabeth Shaw, and Ridley was very clear that she was not Ripley, she's a new character. I would say she steps into this mission with an open heart -- she's full of hopes and dreams. She's a beautiful combination of being a scientist and religious and it's a contradiction ?- it's almost like a battle inside her, between these two sides. And she has a vulnerability.

In the second part of the movie I would say she becomes more like Ripley -? she's stronger and a trooper and more of a survivor. So for me, I didn't really think about Ripley and other things around me, I tried to go into myself and find my focus and let this character run through my veins and my body. I'm always looking for ways to translate things from my life into the person I'm playing because I don't want to pretend, I don't want to fake. And it becomes really personal.

The same thing was true of Lisbeth Salender in "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" -- I gave her my heart and my soul and my life for a year and a half. Then I let her go. When I finished with the third movie, I was really done with her. And I haven't watched Fincher's movie yet, so I am not really sure what they did and what kind of life Rooney Mara gave her. But it was like a combination of Noomi and Stieg Larsson's heroine. I always meld with the character I'm playing, so it's always 50 percent Noomi, 50 percent the character I'm playing.

From one great director to the next, you've just worked with Brian De Palma on "Passion," a remake of last year's French thriller "Love Crime." What was that like?
Wow, yeah, that was a very different experience. I had never done anything like that. And stepping into his world, we had discussions and conversations about the script and the relationship between my character and Rachel McAdams' character. It was really interesting because it started off and we were on two different islands, me and De Palma, and when I finished, I felt we had moved into the same country and we were sharing the vision and sharing the same dream... I became really influenced and colored by my character, and she has a weird emotional life.

It seems like you're kind of a lucky charm for these filmmakers returning to their favorite genres, with Ridley going back to sci-fi and De Palma returning to an erotic thriller.
[Laughs] Maybe!

"Prometheus" opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D formats, this Friday. (And yes, the 3D is worth the extra scrap.)

Home School Education ? Setting Up a - Right Education

If you are planning to put your kids in home school, it is important that you learn some basics tips to help you prepare for homeschooling. Of course, it is important that you also can provide the best education and learning to your kid as well even if they are not going to school.

If you are planning to set up a home school education, which is one option for kids these days, here are some tips to help you.

Assess your schedule and your family?s schedule to be able to ensure that you have enough time to teach children. Of course, you have to make a schedule too and make sure that homeschooling has its own time that is set only for homeschooling. Set a desired schedule then but make sure that any household chores and other chores at home do not interfere with the kids? schooling.

Make your home school legal. In establishing your home school, it is indeed important that you have obtained proper licensing and that you also have set up the requirements for setting up a home school. You may need accreditation and you may have to put into writing the schedule, the classes, the outline of the curriculum as well as the number of hours that your homeschool allot for teaching and learning.

Determine your home school schedule that allows optimum learning from your child. Assess his attitude towards learning. If he is active in the morning, you may need to schedule your home school classes in the morning as well, but make sure that your child is still getting the total number of hours of lessons required of him.

Separate the child?s play area as well as their work area. Being organized can help a lot in making home schooling more convenient and easy. If you are home schooling a preschooler, it helps to also avoid disturbance at home especially if their friends are already playing or wanting to play with your homeschooled children.

Arrange off-site requirements for your homeschool. If you see the need to have other classes for your homeschooled child especially when it comes to their interests and passion such as music classes, dancing classes, swimming classes or any other lessons they will be taking, arrange the schedule early so you can also make the schedule fit in to yours as well.

Prepare their subject matters and make sure to check out the proper subject descriptions to ease of accreditation later when our homeschooled kid will eventually go to high school or college.

Of course, aside from these preparations, you will also need some paper works such as preparing professionally made transcripts that are acceptable to colleges and universities if you are having a high school home school. But of course, even with preschool, make sure that you have prepared the forms they will need for their records.
