Giorgio Armani could claim some big wins at the Oscars on Sunday night: The designer dressed Jessica Chastain and Quvenzhane Wallis.

Chastain, in a glistening copper-tone strapless gown with mermaid hem, looked like an old-world glamorous movie star, especially with her oversized vintage Harry Winston diamond earrings and bright red lipstick. "I chose it because to me it was a throwback to old Hollywood," she said.

Meanwhile, she told E!: "It's a very 'Happy birthday, Mr. President' dress."

Naomi Watts was expected to wear a gunmetal beaded gown with a geometric cutout on the bodice, also by Armani. She and Chastain were both considered fashion "gets" for the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Quvenzhane, with a silver headband in her hair and carrying her puppy purse, wore an Armani Junior navy-blue dress with black, navy and silver jewels scattered on the skirt and a big bow on the back. She apparently has another Armani dress, a pink one, ready for the afterparty. "I liked it because it was sparkly and puffy."

Jennifer Lawrence was in a white strapless gown by Dior Haute Couture with sophisticated pulled-back hair, diamond-ball earrings and a delicate long necklace that hung down in the back.

Amy Adams wore a dove-gray Oscar de la Renta gown with a sweetheart neckline and tiers of frayed chiffon and tulle on the ballskirt, and Zoe Saldana wore a strapless gray gown with floral appliques. Reese Witherspoon's modern gown by Louis Vuitton was mostly electric blue with a strip of black at the bustline.

Kerry Washington wore a Miu Miu gown with a chunky beaded bodice and orange-red skirt with a delicate bow at the waist.

Other expected designer moments to unfold at the Dolby Theatre include Barbra Streisand in a black, bias-cut, asymmetrical Donna Karan gown that the designer dubbed "City Lights." Renee Zellweger was expected to wear a Carolina Herrera gown.

Headed to the Oscars herself, Nadja Swarovski, the head of corporate communications for the crystal company Swarovski that makes the beadwork for the majority of the red-carpet gowns, expected the collective fashion picture to be fairly minimalist looks in monochromatic colors.

Still, she said, there'll be sparkle. "It's more of a dot on the 'I' or cross on the 'T,' more than a whole of sparkle, but it makes a great palette for jewelry."

Wales legends rescue BBC in Rome

Former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davies was forced into emergency match commentary duty as his country beat Italy 26-9 in the Six Nations in Rome.

BBC Wales' Scrum V regular Davies began the match as the BBC's analysis expert.

But commentator Andrew Cotter fell ill and another ex-Wales star, Shane Williams, took over as second-voice.

Huw Llewelyn Davies commentated in Welsh for S4C for the opening period then switched seats to join the BBC One coverage team as Cotter's replacement.

That left his original second-voice partner, former Wales flanker and captain Gwyn Jones, to commentate on BBC Wales' output for Welsh language channel S4C.

After his stint alongside Davies, Williams said: "I would have preferred to have gone on and played hooker rather than do that.

"I was so nervous - you could probably hear it in my voice."

Williams later tweeted: "My apologies to those of you that had to listen to my attempt at commentary today for the Wales v Italy game! #didntseethatcoming."

And at half-time Davies' relief was evident.

"I'm going for a lie down now," said the former dual-code star.

Cotter was also able to communicate via Twitter, saying: "Good timing, winter vomiting bug. Goooood timing....."

He later added: "People are giving me a wide berth at the airport."

Baseball legend speaks to students at Ft. Service Learning Magnet Academy

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- Students at Fort Service Learning Magnet Academy in Columbus could hardly pay attention in class Thursday morning because they knew they were about to hear from a living legend.

At 95 years old, Georgia native Roosevelt Jackson is the oldest living member of the Negro Baseball League and was their guest of honor in recognition of Black History Month.

The courage and determination of players such as Jackson helped to integrate the national pastime, and forced America to take notice.

We spoke to some students right before the ceremony, who appreciate everything he's done for sports.

"He's practically a legend doing what he did in baseball and just proving to the world that everybody should have an equal chance to play all sports.? So I think it's amazing that he's here at our school today," said Zharia Williams.

Not only were students full of excitement and gratitude about hearing the 95-year-old baseball legend speak, but so was the legend himself.

Jackson says being able to come to schools, live to see students play integrated sports and share his experiences to help others means the world to him.

"I don't have words to explain how much that means to me to have the privilege to speak to kids and tell them some of my background and things from some of my life," Jackson said.

He encourages students to stay in school and never forget where they came from. He says if they do this, they can accomplish anything.

After the ceremony, we caught up with Tawanna Lyles, a Georgia studies teacher at Fort Middle who had a huge part in putting this event together. She explains what she hopes her students will be able to learn from Jackson's speech.

"Our students can take away from this that anything is possible, no matter where you are from, or what type of adversities are put in front of you, you are capable of doing anything," Lyles said.

Supposedly haunted house up and moves

Here?s a new twist on an old ghost story: A house with a reputation for being haunted was filmed moving, literally, across town.

This time, however, ghosts were not to blame: Its original lot had been sold to one person, the house to another. As a result, the new owner of the 1865 Iowa home, Sherri Meeker, had the 100-ton structure moved five miles down the road.

Naturally, it caught the interest of the Web. The old house, supposedly haunted by evil spirits, bears a resemblance to the one on ?Nightmare on Elm Street? and is known around town as the "Haunted Mansion of Jasper County."

Some locals swear it has a spooky past. The three-story, wood-frame house sure looks haunted. Local news station KCCI even spent the night there in 1994 after hearing lots of stories about Regina Long, thought to be the original owner, who was said to float around it. Mike Salier, the homeowner at the time, said in the KCCI story: ?It's real. People think it's a lot of poppycock, but it's enough to make your skin crawl.?

The stories certainly were enough to get the Web buzzing over footage of the 150-year-old house slowly making its way down the road.

Of course, believers of the spooky tales are wondering if the spirits will pick up and move, or haunt the next structure that goes up in its place.

At the very least, it would make a good movie. And speaking of good horror movies, check out this Yahoo behind-the-scenes look at the making of a haunted house, with Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum.

EU drafts plans for offshore oil spills

Published: Feb. 22, 2013 at 7:46 AM

BRUSSELS, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The European Union said it was taking a lessons-learned approach from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spilt in drafting its own offshore safety rules.

The European Union proposed legislation that would require oil and natural gas companies to submit emergency response plans and potential hazard reports before being given a license to drill offshore.

Belgian lawmaker Ivo Belet said the European Union needs policies that reflect safety concerns that grew out of the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

"Europe learned its lessons from the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe and wants to reduce the risks of offshore oil and gas drilling to a minimum," he said in a statement. "The previous directive is nearly 20 years old and does not guarantee the safety of offshore drilling operations in an adequate manner."

Eleven rig workers died when a well blowout sparked an explosion that sank the Deepwater Horizon platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The deep-water well failure led to one of the worst offshore oil spills in history.

BP and rig owner Transocean have agreed to pay billions of dollars to settle legal claims from the spill.

The proposed EU legislation would require energy companies to provide evidence that have the means to cover any potential liability related to offshore oil and gas operations.

EU members, under the proposed rules, would be called on to prepare emergency plans to respond to incidents in their territorial waters. Member states with few offshore reserves or landlocked countries need only limited provisions.

The measure goes before an EU energy committee for a vote next month.
